There are two types of East Japanese Rail Passes, Flexi and Consecutive.JR East Consecutive Pass Best purchased before setting out for Eastern Japan, these passes are good for 5 or 10 consecutive days of unlimited rail travel. You can pick the days yourself. If you are planning on visiting a number of different destinations within a short amount of time, than the consecutive pass is the best choice since they offer a greater number of travel days. JR East Flexi Pass Available in 4 days, Flexi passes allow unlimited rail travel for the selected number of consecutive or non-consecutive days over a 1 month period. This is best for travelers who are either planning to stay for several days in one location or for spontaneous visitors who want the flexibility to travel whenever they want.
