Japan's foremost hot-spring resort, Kusatsu contains the largest quantity of natural spring water in Japan. Because of the waters unique characteristics, it is said to have amazing healing qualities which help with muscle pain, neuralgia and chronic skin disease, all while rejuvenating your energy. In addition to these amazing natural hot baths, you can enjoy sight seeing, skiing and other activities on the nearby mountains.
For those looking for a more cultural attraction, a must see is the Shirane Shinto Shrine, which honours the diety Yamato-Takeru-Nomikoto, The mythical Prince of Arms. Legend states that Yamato-Takeru-Nomikoto was first to discover the Kusatsu hot water springs. The shrine is surrounded by a breathtaking forest of Rhododendron, which bursts into bloom in May.

Yubatake - A symbol of Kusatsu located in the center of town, Yubatake is the main hot spring source for the area. Amazingly, 4,040 litres of scalding, spring water gushes out every minute, which is naturally cooled through a set of wooden buckets. Surrounding Yubatake, is a wide assortment of pubs, restaurants and shops.
