IZU

Japan's famous 'spa peninsula' enfolds 61 hot springs. You can enjoy both the beautiful coastline as well as the lushly forested mountains inland. Izu is famous for being one of the world's largest producers of wasabi, which is reflected in much of the local cuisine. It is popular with Tokyoites on weekends and national holidays. In fact, it is officially Japan's most touristy area.

Don't Miss:

Atami - This city (whose name translates into "hot ocean") is home to the renowned Onsen hot springs. It has been known as resort since as far back as the 8th century, so it's no wonder why Atami is one of the most popular seaside destinations in all of Japan!

Atami also offers a number of cultural and historic attractions in its Museum of Art. Much of the extensive art collection of eccentric multimillionaire and religious leader Mokichi Okada is now housed

The Tōkaidō Shinkansen and Tōkaidō Main Line stop at Atami Station, providing direct access to the city from central Tokyo and other major cities.
